Job overview

Do you have a passion for gastroenterology? Do you want to be part of a team that is committed to making a difference to patient care every day?

We are looking for an enthusiastic dietitian to join our friendly team of forty dietitians at TSDFT, based at Torbay Hospital. You would be part of our acute team of dietitians and also work closely with the wider medical gastroenterology team.

The dynamic and collaborative team comprises of 9 gastroenterology medical consultants, a large junior medical team, and a comprehensive array of specialist nurses. There are specialist nurses for stoma, nutrition, liver, IBD, alcohol, cancer, and the gastro ward and day case unit .

Team education and support is a key function of gastro services. There are weekly formal IBD and liver MDT meetings. Complex cases are discussed by the wider team and the band 6 dietitian will be expected to attend, support, and bring cases and challenges for group discussion at these meetings.

You'll need to have excellent interpersonal skills, a flexible approach, and the ability to manage your own workload under pressure.

Main duties of the job

You will build on your experience in nutrition support and/or gastroenterology to provide a patient centred out-patient service to all medical gastroenterology patients referred via various routes (consultants, GPs, specialist nurses). This entails comprehensive assessment of medical gastroenterology outpatients and provision of the most current evidence-based advice for their clinical condition (including IBD, pancreatic disease, liver disease and FODMAPs diets for IBS).

You will be supported by the Band 7 Lead Medical Gastro Dietitian and will contribute to supporting and supervising the Band 5s in the team and be an active part of our student training programme.
