The scale and complexity of the science requires a highly professional and effective Health and Safety team. This function supports cutting edge science by monitoring and advising on health, safety and regulatory compliance issues, specifically working with Crick members and other stakeholders.
It is essential that all members of the Health and Safety Advisory team have the competence and flexibility to support the entire team function. In order to achieve this, Safety Advisors will be expected to work as both generalist and specialist advisors.This role will have ownership and responsibility to act as the subject matter expert for biological safety across the institute.
Key Responsibilities- Acting as a point of contact with regards to Biological Safety, providing specialist advice across the Institute, particularly within the research groups and science support teams, on a wide range of health, safety and compliance topics.
- Deliver objectives set by the Lead Biological Safety Specialist as part of delivery of the H&S strategy.
- Develop and produce written biological safety documentation relating to: Standards, Procedures, Codes of Practice, Guidance, Arrangements and Training, ensuring that information is kept up to date and reflects changes in operational delivery and legislation.
- Review and approve risk assessments, including those on genetic modification and biological agents.
- Advise on storage, transport and disposal of biological agents, including GMOs.
- Attend and support Biological Agent and Genetic Modification Safety Committee meetings as required.
- Participate in Regulatory intervention visits and manage subsequent follow up actions.
