We are excited to offer this paediatric Specialist Speech and Language Therapist post to an enthusiastic, innovative therapist who is passionate about supporting children's speech, language and communication needs and who is looking to further develop their skills.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg SLT department are a friendly and compassionate team who place a strong commitment to supporting staff wellbeing, supervision and continued professional development.

The Children's SLT team report feeling valued and listened to and support one another. You will be invited to attend regular staff development workshops , children's team meetings and annual training days where you will have the opportunity to develop and share your leaning, knowledge and skills.

You will have access to a range of clinical specialists for support and advice.

This post is a fixed term/secondment until 31/08/27 to cover a secondment. If you are interested in applying for it as a secondment, please obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside other SLTs and SLT Technical Instructors in the children's community clinic team across the Cwm Taf Morgannwg area providing assessment, diagnosis and support for children with a range of speech and language needs. You will provide clinical support for other members of the SLT team and will be responsible for mentoring newly qualified SLTs.

We are looking for a therapist who works well as part of a team with excellent communication skills and enjoys working collaboratively with others. You will demonstrate the Health Board values of listening, learning and improving, treating everyone with respect and always working together as one team.

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable at Level 3 Speaking/Listening (or ‘B1’ Level if you’ve learnt Welsh as an adult). This doesn’t mean you have to be ‘fluent’ or be able to write long reports in Welsh; it just means being hold to simple conversations with patient.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • SLT Degree
  • HCPC Registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post-grad experience working in range of paediatric settings
  • Understanding of collaborative working in clinical and educational settings
  • Experience of working with SLT Assistants and Technical Instructors
  • Experience of supervising SLT students
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of mentoring newly qualified SLTs

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to analyse complex assessment information and make specialist clinical decisions
  • Good clinical report writing skills
Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Desirable at Level 3 Speaking/Listening (or ‘B1’ Level if you’ve learnt Welsh as an adult).

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of specific assessment and treatment tools for children and young people with speech and language disorders
  • Has a robust working knowledge of the ALN act and its application in SLT
