Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (Full time, 37.5 hours per week) – Stroke and acute inpatients

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Language Therapist who is passionate about working with adults with complex communication and swallowing difficulties on our acute and stroke rehabilitation wards and also on acute medical wards.

The successful applicant will be fully dysphagia trained and able to manage a caseload independently. You will join a dynamic, friendly and innovative team of therapists and technical instructors, delivering high quality SLT services to adults in North East Wales.

Main duties of the job

You will spend part of your week working with our specialist consultant therapist led stroke service for patients on dedicated acute and rehabilitation wards and the rest of the week in our acute inpatient team in Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The role will involve travel between 2 hospital sites.
There is a wide range of expertise and experience within the friendly and supportive S< team and stroke MDT. You will join a growing team of speech and language therapists and technical instructors and be supported by highly specialist band 7 S<s and our Frailty lead.

There is excellent peer support.

We have regular whole team meetings. Clinical supervision is actively encouraged and there are regular CPD events and training opportunities as you continue to develop and hone your clinical skills. Access to specialist training is available via internal and external courses, as well as mentoring, attendance at regional and national CEN meetings.

There are regular therapist-led and MDT clinics including Videofluoroscopy and FEES, Joint Voice Clinics, Parkinson's Clinics and MND MDT meetings. There will be opportunities to participate in service improvements and MDT initiatives are encouraged.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised qualification degree / equivalent in S<
  • HCPC registered
  • Able to demonstrate continuing professional development e.g. up to date, relevant CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of appropriate clinical network group
  • Other professional or academic qualification which relates to clinical practice
  • Accredited Practice Placement Educator Certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A range of clinical experience across Adult / Paediatric SLT services
  • Delegation to non-registered staff
  • Evidence of teaching within post
  • Involvement in clinical audit
  • Experience in service development / improvement
Desirable criteria
  • Delegation to registered staff
  • Experience of delivering clinical education in area of speciality
  • Experience of delivering / supporting service change
  • Delivering Practice Supervision
  • Experience in leading service development / improvement
