Staff Nurse - Pre-op Assessment
KEY DUTIES To be able to provide care and emotional support to patients and their relatives who are planned admissions for surgical procedures To participate in the holistic pre-operative assessment of patients, and to recognise and organise individual patient care needs, to be able to manage own workload and prioritise care To participate in the teaching of student nurses and the in-service training of qualified nurses and health care assistants, and to participate in the induction of new starters To display a consistently professional manner, and to be always caring and approachable To commence and participate in research/special projects/ audit as directed by the team lead To contribute to the setting, maintaining and monitoring of pre-operative assessment modernisation standards within the unit To have responsibility for the security and maintenance of equipment belonging to the unit To communicate clearly, effectively and politely with all levels of the multi-disciplinary team, patients, relatives and other departments To be aware of and adhere to all Trust Policies and Procedures at all times To report and record any untoward incidences via datix system To assist in the admission process, including obtaining results of investigations and any action required to, theatre utilisation in accordance with protocols promote full To demonstrate awareness of Infection control policies and procedures To ensure that privacy and dignity of patients is paramount and is not compromised To ensure that all patient information is confidential and is not disclosed to a third party except with permission of the Nurse in Charge To report any untoward incidents/occurrences To ensure that all patient care is delivered with the highest degree of professionalism To present an appearance which gives a positive image of the Trust and a manner which is appropriate and which inspires confidence To attend specifically fire and lifting and handling lectures annually and ensure appropriate updates are attended once H.C.A. training is complete To participate in an annual performance review undertaken with the Ward Manager to identify personal development needs CLINICAL AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Practice safely at all times within the Nursing and Midwifery council, the code and all other NMC Guidance Maintain professionalism at all times and be a role model for all staf Work within and monitor standards of care within the defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols to ensure the delivery of a high standard of car Maintain coherent and accurate nursing assessments when performing any nursing care.
