Job overview

The Nurse Specialist will provide support for the patients undergoing endoscopic procedures on a cancer pathway. Using advanced communication and clinical assessment skills the CNS will aim to assess, plan and coordinate the patient journey ensuring all medical needs are met.

Provide education and specialist advice to patients, their carers and staff on the specific care and treatment for the speciality.

Acts as a valuable resource for the multi-professional team.

Set standards of care, influence the work of other professional groups and act as a change agent

Work as a core member of the MDT supporting the endoscopy pathways to improve the patient experience

Main duties of the job
  • Actively integrates theory and practice.
  • Acts as a Key Worker for a clinical caseload, working to coordinate care and provide easy access for ongoing support for patients.
  • Enables people to access, identify, appraise and interpret information, to determine their own future.
  • Provides clinical specialist advice and support across service boundaries.
  • Contributes to service development, ensuring the pursuit of excellence in care.
  • Makes clinical judgements based on experience and knowledge and take appropriate action.
  • Request diagnostic tests within agreed sphere of competence and make clinical judgements within competence boundaries.
  • Communicates sensitive information to patients/carers and professionals.
  • Delivering evidence based individualised and personalised care through holistic needs assessment, planning and evaluation of care and all care interventions.

Should this vacancy be recruited as an apprenticeship, the following criteria will apply:
