**14 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship**

We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.

You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard qualification within the duration of the placement.

We have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and versatile individual to join the Trust as an Apprentice Receptionist in the Plastic Out-patient Department.

It is a very busy and interesting environment and you will be working alongside an established team who have a hard-working and forward-thinking philosophy with patient care at the focus of what we do.

You will deal efficiently and effectively with direct and indirect patient contact.

You will have responsibility for the administration of clinics and will provide professional reception duties. As post holder you will also be required to track and collect patient notes and be able to work well autonomously and as part of a team.

An enthusiastic, motivated, hard-working person is required to assist with the smooth running of this busy department. The post combines reception, clerical and computer work.

The role will involve you working in the outpatient area. You will be trained to use our electronic patient system (PAS), along with all relevant administrative skills and will contribute to and support a very busy, committed, supportive and hard-working team.

The Apprentice will provide a high-quality service and will need to be able to communicate well with patients and their relatives, the general public and a wide range of multi-professional staff including nursing and clinical teams.

  1. To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department.
  2. To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arranging appointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying test requests and investigations, and co-ordinating the various clinics within the department.
  3. To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required.
  4. To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them being called for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause for concern.
  5. To keep a log of telephone requests for investigations in line with department policy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to the appropriate technical staff.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must be:

  • Aged 16+
  • Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years
  • Must not have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above
  • Must not be in any form of formal government-funded education upon the start of their apprenticeship

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Good general standard of education
  • 4 GCSE’s at Grade D/3 or above (or equivalent) subject to the job specification
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good IT skills
