Hello, I am looking for a part-time disabled person’s Personal Assistant/Carer for up to 16 hours a week to start (with the potential for as many or as few hours as you want to take in future) at the London Living Wage (currently £13.15, due to go up to £13.85).
About me
I’m a non-binary woman in their early 30s with a number of health conditions and neurological divergences living a vibrant and busy life in East London.I'm a freelance writer and Cambridge graduate with a love for reading and survivalist TV shows. Vintage and second-hand fashion make me happy and my home is filled with antique items and books. I sometimes attend the theatre and exhibitions and sometimes I travel.
I enjoy good food and love learning new recipes.
I am due to need overnight care, so you will be part of a larger team of people supporting me. I am a part-time wheelchair user and I walk with a walking stick. I use a powered wheelchair.I have severe mental health issues due to long term and complex trauma. I have several conditions, all of which I will disclose in the interview stage, but before you apply you need to know that I have a condition called Dissociative Identity Disorder, which used to be known as ‘multiple personality disorder’.
The personalities within me are younger than I am, and are all very vulnerable to harm. A large part of your job will be keeping me company and helping me to stay safe. I also have Tourette’s, I am autistic and have OCD and Complex-PTSD.
Your responsibilities will include:
Medical:
- support traveling to appointments
- collecting medication from my local pharmacy
- reminding me to take my medication
- help with my nosebleeds
- help with my non epileptic seizures
- support keeping my home free of harmful objects
- support with socialising and being in public
- monitoring my emotional state
- support managing sensory overload
- supervising bathing/grooming
- assistance washing hair
- support with dressing (help with zips at the back of my body; doing up bra hooks; lacing shoes)
- Shopping for food and household items
- Preparing food and cooking
- Supporting me with my eating disorders
- vacuuming and mopping
- cleaning the bathroom and kitchen
- washing up after cooking sessions
- changing bed sheets and doing the laundry
- maintaining the backyard
- dealing with me in different emotional and psychological states
- dealing with medical emergencies
- cooking healthy food or following recipes/instructions in the kitchen
- dogs (my partner has two very small dogs and will be visiting often)
- being around LGBT people
Preferred: You have experience working with vulnerable people
You have an understanding around disability equality, trauma, mental illness and race issues.
Please note that you will receive training from me on the job about my various needs and conditions in detail, so you don’t have to know everything before you start.
