Education and Training - Health and Care Professions

The core purpose of this team is to provide education and training professional leadership across a broad range of health and care professions, including (but not limited to), nursing and midwifery, allied health professions, advanced practice, physician associates, healthcare science, psychological professions.

This includes addressing the gaps in the workforce across health and care profession roles, pathways and geographies through education, and underpinning interdisciplinary training and upskilling, as well as managing domestic supply routes including addressing attrition in training and assuring the quality and improvement of education and training.

Key activities will include:

Supply: Expertise in relation to the workforce education requirements of those providing health and care

  • Workforce:Lead key regional and national programmes of work at region to inform national policy and direction, providing expert clinical and professional advice
  • Quality:Clinical expertise to monitor the delivery and quality of practice-based education across the region
  • Reform and research:Supporting national strategy development and delivery at region including education reform and research

This post is one of three lead nursing and Midwifery lead roles to be established across the NEY region. The role of the Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Lead is to support the delivery of workforce transformation and planning to meet the NHSE mandate, working with the Regional Head of Education and Training: Health and Care Professions, GP Deans, Local Directors and Postgraduate Deans the post-holder will be working with their Local Office area and across NEY.

The post holder will contribute to the Regional Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Board to ensure delivery of the expansion plans and support a professional network of practice nurse facilitators to promote and facilitate student nurse placements across the region and fields of nursing, assessment/supervision, preceptorship, and advanced clinical practice opportunities.

Key to the role will be stakeholder engagement, an understanding of workforce planning, new models of care, leadership, and academic opportunities.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you’ll usually need to be paid the ‘standard’ salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the ‘going rate’ for your job, whichever is higher.

The post holder will be expected to support and contribute to matrix working with NHSE DCO nursing colleagues to achieve the ambition of improved workforce planning. The postholder will be based in the regional offices but expected to travel or use virtual technology (Teams) to attend regional and national meetings.

Budget responsibilities are part of the role. The post holder will identify and lead several local and regional projects with support of the transformational hub.

The post holder will link closely with the NHSE Integrated Care System (ICS) facing teams in the region, supported by the Regional Head of Education and Training: Health and Care Professions leading regionally on a range of Nursing and Midwifery workforce transformation programmes collaboratively with stakeholders, both internally across NHSE and externally, including ICBs, Arm’s Length Bodies, Education Providers and other key partners to drive the delivery of strategy across the region and to ensure the delivery of the agreed outcomes.
