The post is for a qualified midwife who wants to further their experience and skills in midwifery.

The Birth Reflections service isas a specialist service for women and birthing people to discuss their birth experience with an experienced midwife. The aim is to address gaps in understanding and questions the woman and her partner may have, discuss on-going emotional, psychological and physical concerns, and choices and recommendations for any future birth.

They will support women and their partners by reviewing their experience with them through notes review and careful listening. These consultations will involve exploring with women their experience of birth, reviewing the notes in partnership with them, addressing questions or concerns and providing appropriate follow-up and support as necessary.

  • Be responsible for ensuring that all women and families receive safe, competent, and compassionate care.
  • Work flexibly to support other colleagues on a day-to-day basis.
  • Demonstrate excellent personal communication. Establish and maintain effective two-way communication channels with women, families & wider agencies/MDT members.
  • Demonstrate appropriate assertiveness and ability to challenge others when the rights of women and others may be infringed.
  • Actively promote excellent team working and interdisciplinary/cross-boundary working relationships.
  • Take a lead with transformation work relating to trauma informed work/Public Health agenda
  • Be an instrumental player in the implementation of the Trauma Informed Pathway
  • Contribute/lead on new and practical ideas to improve efficiency across the service.
  • Competently record information on the maternity data system and retrieve relevant information from the Information Technology systems

  • Maintains effective working relationships with all staff including medical staff, general practitioners, health visitors, independent midwives and staff from other Trusts.
  • Demonstrate specialist skill and professional knowledge acquired through post registration academic, clinical, leadership and management development. Work as an excellent role model for professional practice.
  • Responsibility to ensure that all midwives caring & facilitating care to women affected by trauma and who are under the care of the Perinatal Mental Health team or maternal psychiatrist, have a management plan where applicable to safeguard & appropriately plan intrapartum care.
  • Be responsible to drive the trauma informed care agenda forward – in line with the NHS long[1]term Plan. Post holder to take responsibility/ownership and oversight of clinical audit relating to trauma related care and implement strategies to improve a streamlined approach to the care provided.
  • Supports and advises junior staff on midwifery issue
  • To undertake Birth Reflections sessions
  • Recording the outcomes of appointments, to be shared with women and kept in their medical records
