Main duties of the job
Recording visual acuity, Intraocular pressure, administering eye drops.
Assisting in all areas of the clinic depending on demand.
Assisting clinicians for smooth running of clinic.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Communication- To report on the condition of patients to the Clinical Leader/Medical staff, assisting them in ascertaining treatments and ensure these are carried out.
- Contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the teams in which he/she works.
- Undertake any other duties at the request of the line manager which are commensurate with the role, including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.
- Contribute to a healthy and safe working environment by adhering to health and safety regulations and Trust policies.
- Abide by the Data Protection Act 1998, by ensuring that all computerised information related to patients and other members of staff to which he/she has access in the course of employment, is regarded as strictly confidential. This rule applies to written information. Failure to adhere to this instruction will be regarded as serious misconduct and lead to disciplinary action.
- Actively promote the Trust’s commitment to equality and diversity by treating all patients, visitors and colleagues with dignity and respect and ensuring their specific health and wellbeing needs are met.
- Aid with the clinic to support new ways of working
- Review clinical policies with the nursing team
- Ophthalmic nursing triage of referrals emergency and telephone

- In the event of a major incident or civil unrest all Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust employees will be expected to report for duty on notification. All Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust employees are also expected to play an active part in training and preparation for a major incident or civil unrest.
- All Hospital staff, both clinical and non-clinical, have an overriding duty of care to patients and are expected to comply fully with best practice standards. You have a responsibility to comply with Trust policies for personal and patient safety and for prevention of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI); this includes a requirement for rigorous and consistent compliance with Trust policies for hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment and safe disposal of sharps. Knowledge, skills and behaviour in the workplace should reflect this; at annual appraisal you will be asked about application of practice measures known to be effective in reducing HCAI.
