As part of the London Sickle cell improvement programme, the Integrated Care System (ICS) and Imperial have asked Central London Community Healthcare (CLCH) Southwest division, to provide the community provision of the new Sickle cell service in 4 new boroughs – Richmond, Merton, Sutton, and Kingston, with the addition of the current existing sickle cell service in Wandsworth, supporting from pre-conception providing genetic counselling, through to paediatric and adult support.

The Haemoglobinopathy service is seeking to recruit a full-time community haemoglobinopathy nurse with a background in children's nursing to join the service. This job description covers both children and adult nursing, but specific clinical duties will be determined by the post covered.

The post holder will work alongside the current Specialist Children's Nurse, managing the caseload of children living with Haemoglobinopathy conditions within 5 boroughs in Southwest London – Richmond, Merton, Sutton, Kingston, and Wandsworth.

The post holder will be responsible for providing community nursing care and counselling for people with sickle cell, thalassemia and other haemoglobinopathies, supporting them in their homes and other venues local to their homes across the 5 boroughs and working with the wider team in offering clinical support to people with haemoglobinopathy conditions at different stages of their lives, from antenatal screening, throughout childhood, through to adults living with a long-term chronic condition.

You will provide community nursing care and counselling for people with sickle cell, thalassaemia and other haemoglobinopathies, supporting them in life-long self-care.

You will provide resources for children, parents, primary care staff, schools and education colleagues, as well as other agencies, providing specialised training and education to increase understanding and awareness of haemoglobinopathies.

You will Provide screening and counselling to identify haemoglobinopathy status for clients, including antenatal screening, following training.

You will Liaise with specialist medical and nursing provision provided primarily by Imperial and other affiliated hospitals.
