Support Worker for Learning Disabled

apartmentPrivate Household placeBristol calendar_month

A support worker is needed to assist a young learning-disabled man, who lives in the Easton area of Bristol for 8 to 10 hours a week. Times are flexible within the Thursday to Friday bracket, and are likely to build from 8, up to 10hrs, as the client becomes used to being supported by a non-family member.

Tasks include taking the client out on trips to cafes, walks, live entertainment, and other social, therapeutic, and educational activities. Using public transport. Wearing weather appropriate clothing. Passing on knowledge that happens to be your skill or knowledge set and maintaining regular verbal engagement with the client.

Encouraging the client to learn through everyday activities. For example, literacy and numeracy when out shopping.

Non-essential tasks are activities such as swimming or cycling. Helping with financial, numeracy and literacy training. Helping with home skills training, such as cooking, washing, and cleaning.

Experience with learning disabled people would help, but patience and an ability to understand the client’s perspective and support him to meet his needs is as important. A willingness to be understanding of some minor challenging behaviours.

Training and ongoing support and advice will be given.

Equal opportunities are important to the household in which the client lives, and we would want to employ someone who has a genuine acceptance of people from all backgrounds.

DBS background checks would be carried out before starting employment.
