Support Worker
My client Matt has a diagnoses of Autism and has been awarded funding from the council, to employ a support worker to mainly assist him with administration and budgeting. Matt is at the higher end of the spectrum. He can communicate verbally and in writing. However, he would benefit from communication support to make his thoughts and feelings known, heard and understood by others. He enjoys socialising and has a very wacky, irreverent, and sometimes dark sense of humour. So having the same might be an advantage.
At times, Matt can feel a little beaten down by life, so having someone to advocate for him, for example, with employers, and offer emotional support, reassurance and encouragement would be great. Matt’s main hobbies and interests are reading, the theatre, gardening, b-movies and he loves dogs.Main DutiesTo support with:· Administration, writing letters and general communication support· Assistance with budgeting· Liaising with contractors / Trade’s people· Help with sourcing new energy supplier, etc· Support to find and stay in paid employment and support to attend interviews· Emotional support· AdvocacyEssential Criteria· Experience and understanding of working with person who has autism· Non-smoker· Must have use of own vehicle.
