Job overview
The Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board’s Clinical Engineering Department delivers medical equipment management services throughout the Health Board.
The department provides a broad range of complex, routine and non-routine activities including planned preventive maintenance, repair, calibration, safety testing, quality assurance, evaluation, commissioning, decommissioning, of medical equipment.
We currently have a vacancy for a Band 5 Healthcare Science Practitioner / Clinical Technologist. The successful candidate will become part of a team, specialised in servicing, maintaining and managing a range of medical equipment based in Prince Charles Hospital, (although the post-holder will be expected to carry out his/her duties across the Health Board as necessary).
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide a medical technical service that will include the acceptance, test, repair, calibration and preventative maintenance of electrical, electronic, electro-medical, mechano-medical and medical gas equipment mainly at the Prince Charles Hospital and surrounding area.
On occasion there may requirement to travel to other sites within the UHB to assist with workload/schedules or for training purposes.
Will use various health board software packages in the course of their duty, such as recording of jobs for medical equipment, and stock/parts ordering and distribution.
You will have a UK accredited HNC, HND, Undergraduate Degree or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering and be able to clearly demonstrate significant post qualification technical training and experience in the support of a broad range of medical equipment.Specific training on a range of medical devices will be provided. Computer literacy along with excellent team working and communication skills will be required.
This role does not have directly accessible patient/public contact in line with the service we provide. Therefore Welsh language skills are not generally needed for this post.; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria- National Diploma in Clinical Technology or Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification and/or experience in Electronics/Clinical Engineering.
- Evidence of technical training and continuous professional development in relevant sphere.
- Awareness of Medical Device Management Guidance
- Relevant technical apprenticeship.
Experience
Essential criteria- Sufficient experience in a clinical engineering setting.
- Organisational, interpersonal and operational skills needed for post i.e. management of resources i.e. planning and delivery of service provision.
- Ability to produce written and verbal reports pertinent to the post i.e. technical documentation.
- Eligibility for membership of IPEM register of Clinical Technologists.
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria- Proven organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to analyse, diagnose and repair faults to component level if necessary with excellent manual dexterity on electronic medical equipment.
- Able to demonstrate the ability to cope under pressure.
- Ability to demonstrate good standard of record keeping in line with quality standards.
