The Critical Care Outreach Advanced Practice team (CCOT ACP) are recruiting. We are looking for highly motivated, dynamic and innovative member to join our existing team and we welcome applicants from both nursing and allied health professional backgrounds.

UHS CCOT service was established in 2001 and is a 24/7 acute care referral service covering approximately 1200 adult beds across a large tertiary centre and work collaboratively with the ward teams across all specialist areas within Southampton General Hospital & Princess Anne Hospital.

Providing high quality advanced level care and management of acutely ill adult patients, adult patients who are at risk of deterioration or other immediate life-threatening events.

You will be joining a highly skilled team working closely with the Intensive Care Unit and other acute care teams/services across the hospital. The CCOT ACP role is cutting edge within the remit of Critical Care Outreach services crossing multi-professional boundaries.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Trainee Advanced Practitioner (ACP) you are expected to work in conjunction with the 4pillars of Advanced Practice as outlined in the HEE Multi-professional Framework (2017): Clinical practice Leadership and Management, Education and Research.

This is a training post in which the practitioner will deliver, under the supervision of an Advanced Clinical Practitioner or Designated Medical Practitioner (DMP) an advanced level of clinical practice within the speciality area.

You will develop the knowledge and skill required to provide expert clinical management and care to patients with critical care needs within the ward environment.

You will complete a clinical portfolio, providing evidence of the HEE capabilities for advanced clinical practice, complete the National Outreach Forum Enhanced and Advanced Capabilities in practice alongside a recognised MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.

This role is for a 24/7 service and includes day shifts, night shifts, weekends and bank holidays.

We have a dedicated Consultant Intensivist providing regular formal clinical supervision and education. You will be supported to complete the National Outreach Forum Enhanced and Advanced Practice Capabilities alongside the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice academic pathway.

You will have protected time to develop your advanced practice portfolio within the 4 pillars of advanced practice.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Registered Healthcare Professional on relevant part of NMC / HCPC register
  • Completion of Healthcare Degree (or equivalent - Minimum 120 credits at L6 or evidence of Masters level study)
  • Committed and eligible for participation in and completion of MSc in area of speciality
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice or the ability to Provide evidence of:
  • Supporting a range of learners in practice
  • Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Evidence of on-going personal and professional development
  • Basic keyboard skills with knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Significant Post Registration experience within chosen specialty
  • Broad awareness of wider Trust initiatives / pressures
  • Coaching/leadership experience
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of HTPA Competencies
  • Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
  • ILS trained
  • Evidence of ability to change or initiate practice
  • Registered on MSc Pathway as an experienced practitioner
  • Further study at Level 7 within relevant pathway
  • Leadership qualification (RCN, LDC, Edward Jenner, Elizabeth Garret Anderson, Nye Bevan)
  • Maths and English Level 2 or have recognised equivalence from the ENIC process
