Job overview
Against a back drop of rising need, the vision of the King’s Maudsley Partnership is that all Children and Young People enter adulthood with robust mental health. The Partnership is all about clinicians and researchers working more closely together to find new ways to predict, prevent and treat mental health disorders for children and young people and maximise translation of research and evidence into improved services, locally but also nationally and globally.
This unique partnership, between the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London and supported by the Maudsley Charity is preparing to move into the Pear’s Maudsley Centre where clinical and academic teams will be co-located and where we will have access to a brand new Clinical Research Facility.This facility is dedicated to finding the answers to critical questions about the causes of and treatments for youth mental health problems, and the only one of its kind in Europe.
The purpose of this role is:
- Firstly to ensure effective programme management and governance is in place to oversee and track the cost and the benefits of the overall programme of work agreed around clinical and academic collaboration.
- Secondly to support delivery of the agreed changes in ways of working between clinical and academic teams, for example via the development of our nascent communities of practice and support for the new “research for all” model in the Pears Centre.
- Developing and maintaining effective programme management and governance structures and processes
- Measuring and tracking and communicating benefits and impacts of Partnership working
- Leading engagement to drive changes in ways of working to enhance collaboration between clinical and academic teams
Working for our organisation
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.There are very few organisations in the world that have such wide-ranging capabilities working with mental illness. Our scope is unique because it is built on three major foundations: care and treatment, science and research, and training.
The Trust employ around 5000 staff and serve a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services. Currently, provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE- To maintain and develop the King’s Maudsley Partnership governance structures to strengthen and facilitate collaborative working.
- To ensure robust plans in place for delivering the King’s Maudsley Partnership Roadmap, that include the identification of key milestones and risks.
- To identify and measure the key benefits from implementing changes to working practices and service pathways
- To work with and develop relationships with key stakeholders to oversee the robust and effective delivery of new working practices and patterns as part of the King’s Maudsley Partnership.
- To work with clinical and academic teams to ensure that there are robust operational plans for services that reflect agreed and improved ways of working to maximise engagement with research.
- To lead and embed agreed changes in ways of working between clinical and academic teams: for example
- via the development of the King’s Maudsley Partnership communities of practice, which enable clinical and academic collaboration and a more research active culture
- via the expansion of a “research for all” offer, engaging more CYP and families in research in the new Pears Centre.
- To effectively communicate with staff across the Partnership to promote the benefits of collaboration; across discovery, translation and implementation.
- To provide regular updates, progress reports and risk reports into the King’s Maudsley Partnership working group and Board.
- To provide some administrative support for KMP activities, including organization of meetings of key groups.
- Provides specialist training in own area as necessary to support the programme.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- • Masters Degree Level Qualification or Equivalent experience in healthcare settings
- • Project Management Qualifications eg. Prince 2 or MSP or equivalent relevant experience
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of managing change in an NHS and/ or academic environment
- Developing and leading on new ways of working to improve practice within clinical and non-clinical environments.
- Experience of co-ordinating multiple activities across programmes of work
- Experience planning and supporting meetings and events
- Experience in programme management and governance
- Experience of leading clinical / academic collaboration initiatives and working collaboratively with clinicians and academics
- Experience leading service improvement projects in an NHS mental health environment
Knowedge / Skills
Essential criteria- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of how mental health services function within the NHS
- Understanding how to define cost improvement opportunities in an NHS provider
- Knowledge of change management approaches in NHS / academia
