Job overview

The successful candidate will be autonomous practitioner, taking responsibility for the provision of care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods for women and babies in the hospital/community setting.

You will be responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of care to both high and low risk women in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period, also supporting the team/ward in the effective management of the clinical area.

You will support, supervise and teach staff/students evidence based client centred care, which is of a high standard, being responsible for ensuring that all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures and maintaining associated records of care.

We have a robust preceptorship package in place for newly qualified midwives and a dedicated Practice Development Midwife.

Main duties of the job

The midwifery teams at WUTH provide care to approximately 3200 women and their families in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period, both low and high-risk women. Encompassed within the unit is a Level 3 Unit for Neonatal Services, Children’s Services and Women’s Unit.

You should have excellent interpersonal skills and a clear demonstration of the ability to provide personalised maternity care. You should have a clear commitment to current developments and initiatives within the Midwifery arena and sound knowledge of current issues in the public health agenda.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a Enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 months.

As this vacancy is within the division of Women's and Children's, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £13 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust.

The amount would vary depending on the level required: Standard Disclosure £21.50+£6.50 or Enhanced Disclosure £49.50+£6.50 (please be aware the additional sum is an administration fee and may increase due to inflation).

This will be deducted from your salary, in manageable monthly instalments for up to 3 months following commencement of employment.
