An exciting opportunity has become available to recruit a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work as part of an established team providing assessment and treatment to patients in a community setting and being responsible for your own clinical caseload.This is an opportunity to further develop your career working across both Health and Social care.
You will work as a member of the Community Occupational Therapy Team, promoting independent living and well being through individualised assessments which may lead to the provision of specialist equipment or environmental adaptations to the home.
The Community Occupational Therapy team is based at the Link Centre and part of the Integrated Therapy Hub, which comprises of Community Neuro Rehab, Falls, Stroke, Dietetics, Speech and Language Therapy, Macmillan AHP’s, Community Physio.
Main duties of the job
Working with both adults and children experiencing difficulties managing everyday activities due to disability/illness within their home environment this is a varied and diverse role.
You will actively liaise with other services in the community, primary and secondary care to ensure the necessary support is available.
Your will provide support/supervision/training to peers and junior Occupational Therapy staff as required.

Key Responsibilities of the Post:
Assess the functional abilities of people whose needs can be complex, changing and vary across the caseload.
Provide professional guidance and support for Technical Instructor III’s/OT Assistants.
To assess and treat patients and develop, implement, evaluate and modify individualised treatment program.
To carry a caseload of patients that present with acute or chronic conditions
To participate in appropriate meetings e.g. MDT’s
Assess, plan, prioritise and make recommendations with regard to equipment, adaptations etc. as appropriate to the client group. Assess for and advise on patient’s care needs and evaluate this.

Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria- Ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for specialist clinical caseload
- Self-motivated and able to lead and motivate others
- Ability to use advanced clinical reasoning, making professional judgements in complex and challenging situations
- Flexible approach to working, to meet changing demands and needs
- Proven organisational skills including time management, prioritising and the ability to complete a task
- Able to travel across NCA sites and community to meet patient need, access training and attend meetings
- Effective computer skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to present information in a clear and logical manner
- Ability to prioritise referrals, respond to queries and allocate referrals to staff/waiting lists in line with the services duty system whilst working under pressure.
Knowledge, Training & Experience
Essential criteria- Post graduate training in specialist areas / working with complex need patients
- Evidence of autonomous post graduate CPD in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio
- Good working knowledge of how clinical governance affects practice, including quality, audit and risk management
- Enabling effective team working
- Effective liaison with other professionals and partnership working
- Teaching and supervision of others
- Manage conflict and defend own viewpoint effectively
- Manage complaints or queries in a positive and constructive manner
- Formal supervision and appraisal of others
- Contribution to the recruitment process
- Addressing poor performance in others
- Enable patient choice and participation and support others to do so
