Are you looking to progress your career in surgery whilst working at a major London teaching hospital? This is an exciting time for you to join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and to work in our leading surgical and allied surgical teams.

We are recruiting for ST1/2 equivalent surgical rotations. Suitable candidates will have completed Foundation Training or equivalent and have a keen career interest in surgery. We offer high quality national surgical training programmes across a number of specialties. We have been developing our own local core surgical training programme. As a local programme, offered across our multiple sites in North-West London, we can offer tailored core-level equivalent training.

The programme is managed, quality assured, supported and mentored by our local training programme director and education team. Successful completion of the programme and assessment at the final local ARCP will culminate in the award of a certificate of readiness to enter higher surgical training (CREST) to indicate achievement of the required competencies and experience to enter higher surgical training.

We will offerLocal Core Surgicaltraining programmes to achieve the required competencies and experience across a number of specialties as well as specificThemed Core Surgical Rotations.

Themed rotations are offered based in:

ENT Surgery, Intensive Care Medicine,as well as the allied specialties of, Renal Transplant Surgery and Major Trauma. Additional and alternative placements may be possible by discussion and agreement with our local TPD.

Successful candidates can expect:

  • Appointment to a 2-year contract with 6-month rotating posts allowing stability
  • Regular scheduled operating, clinic, acute and elective surgical experience in line with guidance and standards detailed by the Joint Committee for Surgical Training
  • A named Educational Supervisor for the duration of the rotation
  • 10 days study leave/ year with an enhanced personal study budget
  • Access to ISCP e-portfolio (Trust funded).
  • Annual Review Process and support to achieve the requirements of core surgical training including the MRCS examination
  • Access to opportunities for quality improvement, research and relevant teaching
  • Support and mentoring from our local Core Surgery TPD, your AES and specialty consultants with career and competency development and preparation for higher surgical training.

The 2 year core surgical local rotations commence on October 2 2024 – 6 Oct 2026 and are designed so that you can obtain the required core surgical training equivalence and experience (but these are not numbered training posts).
