Senior Physiotherapist (Band 6) in MSK Outpatients and Hand Therapy (Full-time or Part-time)

Are you interested in working for a service that supports personal development and provides a variety of experiences in an engaging and innovative team?

We are offering an opportunity to join the MSK Outpatient Team in a role where you will have a mixed caseload of Core MSK patients AND Hand Therapy patients. with opportunities in:

  • Acute and Chronic referral management (including acute orthopaedics)
  • Management of Self-Referrals
  • Group exercise classes
  • Splinting
  • MDT Hand Trauma Clinics
  • Innovative ways of working

We provide a job plan that balances a varied caseload of MSK and Hand Therapy patients with personal development opportunities. These include involvement in research, clinical leadership, supervision and education.

Candidates need to have broad MSK skills and have had experience of working in Hand Therapy.

As an organisation, we are known for supporting personal development, post-graduate education, including MSc level courses.

We are actively engaged in research, leading in trials with Oxford University and the NIHR. We also have close multi-disciplinary working with other services in the acute trust and with the MSK Advanced Practitioner Service.

Main duties of the job

To support leadership and work within the Core MSK and Hand Therapy services, providing an effective and evidence-based service through assessing, planning and implementing treatment programmes.

To deliver therapeutic intervention, including Hand Therapy, by using the principles of Physiotherapy in an integrated and client-centred way.

To assume responsibility for personal development and supporting the development and supervision of others by CPD (continuing professional development), linked to appraisal.

To support evaluation and service development in the clinical area in line with national and local drivers.

The Therapy service provides Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy to inpatients and outpatients at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals. We are an integrated service providing patient centred care. Our mission is to ‘enable people to maximise their potential to live well’

Our Outpatient service was shortlisted for the HSJ Awards and HSJ Awards 2024 for service improvement innovations and performance recovery.

The successful candidate will have a job plan that balances a varied caseload of Core MSK and Hand Therapy patients with personal development opportunities. These will include involvement in research, clinical leadership and the supervision and education of less experienced staff.

You will also be integral in the development of students and apprentices.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
Desirable criteria
  • Completed or working towards completion of relevant post-graduate training e.g. BAHT Level 1 or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of supervising, appraising, and providing education/training to others
  • Experience of working in the NHS in the UK

Knowledge/ Skills

Essential criteria
  • Deliver a high level of skill in assessment and management of complex patients.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written when interacting with patients/carers, other team members and the MDT.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply and utilise evidence based practice, including National guidelines to deliver, evaluate and audit the service.
  • Demonstrate the ability to network with other professionals and set up close working relations
  • Work flexibly in response to the changing demands of the service and manage changes in service delivery in self and others.
Desirable criteria
  • Have an understanding of the principles of both Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy in order to contribute to the development of an integrated Therapy Service

  • Work efficiently as a team member within the multidisciplinary team
  • Work and maintain judgement under pressure, whilst effectively manging own and others' time
