Job overview

We are recruiting for a band 5 development post within the Community Respiratory team.

The successful candidate will receive a robust workplan and competency framework to support the progression from band 5 to band 6. The candidate will receive weekly allocated study time and supernumerary shifts to develop skills across the respiratory service.

This is open to both nurse and physiotherapist colleagues.
  • The Community Respiratory Service delivers pulmonary rehabilitation programmes, Home Oxygen Assessment Service and supports the NHS@home respiratory pathway.
  • We also provide an Advice and Guidance Service for healthcare professionals across BNSSG from across the care pathway.,
  • Our service supports people with long term respiratory conditions living in the community to help them manage their condition and improve their quality of life
  • The Community Respiratory Service sits within Specialist Services and provides support to adults across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
  • Our service hours are 8.00am -6.30pm, seven days a week.

Our team is based at new Friends Hall, Stapleton, BS16 – travel to patient’s homes, clinics and community venues across the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) area is part of the role.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder is responsible for provision of a patient-centered, evidence-based service to patients within the Bristol, North Somerset and South Glos area (BNSSG) and will provide:
  • Expert clinical assessment, advice and treatment for people with chronic respiratory disease within the community setting.
  • Support and deliver Pulmonary Rehabilitation programmes and the Home Oxygen Therapy service.
  • Provide specialist assessment for patients on the Acute Respiratory at NHS@Home Pathway
  • Be a specialist resource for colleagues across both professional and organisational boundaries sharing expert knowledge to ensure effective medical management and integrated working.

Skills and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Previous post qualification experience working in a health and social care environment within the relevant professional discipline
  • o be competent in performing specialist clinical assessments and treatments with a variety of presenting conditions, and with particular emphasis on respiratory examination, treatment techniques and clinical reasoning
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Evidence of ability to resolve varied problems using sound logic and taking into consideration relevant implications and able to demonstrate evidence of good decision making
  • Able to work under pressure and respond to acute patient need
Desirable criteria
  • Student mentorship/ practice assessor qualification
  • Experience of managing group work
  • Knowledge of shared decision making and goal setting. Ability to implement this within patient care

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Hold a Physiotherapy/Nursing/Paramedic qualification recognised as equivalent by professional body
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) maintained in portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • Qualifications/study in respiratory care
  • Level 3 Physical assessment and clinical reasoning qualification
  • Student mentorship/ practice assessor qualification
