The Corinium Museum holds large and internationally significant collections of archaeology, social and rural history as well as running the Visitor Information Centre. We are looking for a Cleaner/Caretaker to join our friendly and professional team!

We are looking for someone who has a team orientated approach and is happy to get stuck in with cleaning, undertaking minor repairs, reporting defects and generally making sure the building is ready for public use daily. We are looking for someone who can think on their feet, friendly and a proactive member of our team.

Knowledge and Understanding
  • Good, all round, knowledge of buildings maintenance and safeguarding of premises.
  • Good, all round knowledge of cleaning tasks including operating floor machines.
  • General maintenance and repair skills including painting.

  • Ability to safeguard premises and grounds.
  • Monitoring cleanliness and safety of premises.

Hours: 9 hours per week, Monday - Saturday

Requirements
  • Responsible for the early morning opening procedure of the Corinium Museum making sure all interactives are working and hands-on activity areas are tidy.
  • Responsible for the cleaning of the hard floors in the public areas using a floor machine.
  • Responsible for the refuse bins and recycling on site.
  • Preparation and dismantling of rooms and areas for various functions from school workshops to talks or to private hire events which could involve setting up furniture and laying out equipment. Note this post requires manual handling which will involve lifting/moving/setting up/packing away of furniture e.g. tables and chairs.
  • Responsible for monitoring and changing lightbulbs around the Museum.
  • To inspect the interior & exterior of the building for general cleanliness on a daily basis. A weekly check must also be conducted for any defects & malfunctioning equipment.
  • You will make good any defects where appropriate or report to the Director as soon as possible so that repairs can be arranged.
  • Responsible for general maintenance and repair including painting on occasion when required.
  • Ensure external emergency exit pathway and external stairs are kept free of debris and algae.
  • Ensure that Health & Safety issues are strictly adhered to.
  • Responsible for monitoring cleaning supplies and ordering in new supplies when required.
  • Cover cleaning duties when the second cleaner is absent.
  • Attend training courses & complete all the appropriate Health & Safety requirements for the role.
  • Deal with any other matters which would facilitate the smooth running of the Museum, or as may reasonably be required by the Director or Senior Team.
