Job overview

A position have arisen in the Urodynamics team at Abbey Park Procedure Unit located in Furness General Hospital

The post will be 8 hours a week, every Thursday.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team providing high quality, compassionate, patient focused care to work within the Urodynamics team. The post holder will be required to assist a Urology Specialist nurse with the running of Urodynamics clinics, as well as being able to work independently on flow clinics when required.

Main duties of the job

You must possess excellent communication, IT and customer care skills and demonstrate an ability to work both independently and as part of the wider team.

The role may consist of:

  • Assisting Urodynamics clinics with a specialist nurse
  • Carrying out independent flow studies
  • Chaperoning
  • Assisting patients with disabilities and those who may be required to use a hoist
  • Cleaning down work spaces. Infection prevention
  • Accessing patient information to support with the clinic

Previous experience in care is an advantage but not essential

It would be desirable if you possessed an NVQ 3 in Health & Social Care.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • • Good general education
  • • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL or equivalent
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ Level 3 in care related area.
  • Completed Trusts Support Worker Development Programme.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Previous experience in a care environment
  • • Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids
Desirable criteria
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Previous experience within designated area

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance, Understanding of confidentiality
  • IT skills – basic level
  • Caring for people
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of the NHS structure and current issues
