To provide support for 18 hours per week. To work with a young adult to enable him to access the community to enable his independence and also to provide personal care.
We are currently looking to recruit a Support Worker to provide support for a 27 year old young man. The purpose of your role will be to enable his independence supporting him to access the community, taking part in activities he enjoys and to provide personal care.
He is friendly young man, can be quiet until he gets to know you and enjoys being around people. He is looking for someone who can be proactive, confident, calm and have a good sense of humour.
This young man has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and is a full-time wheelchair user. He also has the support of an assistance dog.
You will support with going to the shops, meeting friends, taking part in various activites such as going to the cinema and out for food. You will also support with his assistance dog going for walks, vet visits etc. Each day will be different depending on what he wants to do on that day and his level of energy so you should be prepared to be flexible.
We would also like our PA to be able to suggest things to do out in the community so you should be willing to be proactive in finding various activities to take part in.
You will need to be a car driver and be able to drive a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (clients own) May be beneficial to have your own transport due to rural location however there is public transport which can be used. Expenses will be met by your employer.
We are looking for a third member of the team working 18 hours per week on a shift basis.
MAIN DUTIES• Personal Care- Support with enabling independence
- Assist with taking part in activities and to persue hobbies and interests
- Ensure safety when out and about
Rate of pay : £13.09 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata
Hours Breakdown: 18 hours per week – to be flexible
Person SpecificationSuccessful applicant must:
- Ideally have experience working as a support worker with adults especially with physical disabilities
- Have a positive understanding towards people with disabilities
- Have a genuine interest in working within social care
- Have a high degree of initiative
- Be punctual and reliable
- Be flexible
- Have a happy, positive and caring nature.
- Respect confidentiality.
An Enhanced DBS Check is required, cost to be met by employer.
