We are looking to expand the radiographic reporting team in our Trust with the addition a reporting radiographer with postgraduate qualification in image interpretation.

This will be a full time reporting post at Bedford Hospital.

Ideally the successful candidate should have extensive experience of reporting plain film images in a hospital environment.

As a band 7 radiographer you will be able to lead a team in the ED and general radiology departments.

This role involves the training and supervision of junior radiographers and students as well as taking a lead role in audits and service improvement initiatives that are relevant to the Imaging Department.

The department has implemented a shift working system. Flexible working and participation in the 7-day service will be expected.

Hybrid working with the use of a home reporting station will be available on completion of a probationary period and successful completion of reporting audit as per RCR guidance.

Main duties of the job

To take an active part in the provision of the reporting radiographer service whilst maintaining the highest standards.

To have responsibility for Image Interpretation of planar x-ray images.

To produce high quality Image reports.

To produce high quality diagnostic images whilst maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

To participate in the 7-day working rota for clinical and reporting duties.

  • To be accountable for monitoring own standards of work and that of others, improving the quality of clinical service provision.
  • To provide an agreed volume of reporting ensuring that any urgent reports are brought to the attention of the referring clinician and acted upon in patients’ best interests.
  • To take responsibility for reporting lists to ensure that local KPI’s can be maintained.
  • To determine the need for additional examinations based on clinical presentation and image appearances and, where appropriate, refer patients for other supplementary investigations in line with the established care pathways.
  • To communicate results/findings to the referring clinician providing well rationalised evidence based advice and/or recommendations.

Person specification

Education & Qualification

Essential criteria
  • BSc Radiography (Hons) or Diploma of College of Radiographers (or equivalent)
  • HCPC Registered
  • Up to date CPD file
  • Post graduate reporting qualification in axial and appendicular, trauma and non-trauma plain film studies
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate reporting qualification in Chest Interpretation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must have substantial post graduate experience in reporting. Must have experience of reporting X-rays to a high level in an NHS hospital environment.
  • Extensive experience of working in an acute hospital
  • Extensive experience in general radiographic practice
  • Experience working with undergraduate and post-graduate students.
Desirable criteria
  • Extensive experience within the NHS

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound scientific and technical knowledge relevant to the post
  • Awareness of all legislation and safety requirements relevant to the post
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous personal professional development
  • CPD Portfolio and evidence of Reporting Audit
  • Commitment to governance and audit
  • Awareness of different teaching requirements from different training routes.

  • Knowledge of governance and audit procedures

Essential criteria
  • Able to operate, manipulate and manoeuvre radiographic equipment when working in the clinical environment
  • Able to physically carry out single-handed radiographic duties, including moving and handling of patients and equipment on a regular basis, in accordance with the Moving and Handling Policy
  • Dexterity, coordination & sensory skills
  • Frequent requirement to exert physical effort
  • To use analytical and judgement skills in a specialist area, dealing with several strands of complex information
