as our Health and Safety Advisor, where you will play a vital role in safeguarding our service delivery.

This role is a business-critical element of our Safety & Facilities Team, who are collectively responsible for the effective and efficient management of health and safety matters, including employee engagement; policy and procedural implementation & monitoring; interactive safety tours; auditing and inspection; creation of risk assessments and safe systems of work; accident and incident investigations/reduction; and delivery of training and/or toolbox talks.

You will understand the importance of psychological safety in a complex, multi-site business and integrate this into every aspect of your work.

We are looking for a responsible and conscientious individual, to assist with the development and implementation of effective occupational health and safety measures. Our ideal candidate will be able to embed a positive safety culture consistently across every department, where every voice matters.

You will work collaboratively with stakeholders to provide best practice advice and guidance to line managers and teams across the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, monitor and review health and safety policies, procedures, and protocols in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Conduct planned and unplanned audits, risk assessments, and inspections of facilities, equipment, and operations to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety guidelines and standards.
  • Provide comprehensive training programmes and resources to staff, fostering a culture of physical and psychological safety awareness and best practice.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, analysing root cause and recommending preventive measures including training to mitigate future risks.
  • Collaborate with department heads and managers to address safety concerns, offering guidance and support to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Stay abreast of industry developments and regulatory changes, updating policies and practices accordingly.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders i.e., RAIB, ORR, HSE, CIRAS, Blackpool Council to share best practice, success and lessons learned.
  • Co-ordinate the development and implementation of health & safety policies, safe systems of work and procedures.
  • Demonstrate and embed Blackpool Transport’s mission, vision and values in all work undertaken.
  • Proactively nurture a culture of equality and diversity across the business.
  • Ensure that BTS meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training, reviewing and reporting.
  • Establish a structured programme of health & safety training throughout the Company.
  • Analyse all available data to make recommendations for continual business improvement.
  • Engage with employees regarding any health and safety issues.

Qualifications:

  • Proven, recent experience in a health and safety management role in a complex organisation (E)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent.(E)
  • Current ISO450001 qualification or willing to work towards within first year of employment (E)
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices. (E)
  • Lived experience of conducting safety tours and employee workshops (E)
  • Experience in management of asbestos, legionella, and/or COSHH (D)
  • Experience within the Transport and/or Engineering Industries. (D)
  • Experience working within the Light or Heavy rail industry. (D)
  • Current Driving Licence. (D)
  • Level 3 Education & Training (D)
