Senior Group Internal Communications Officer

Based in London UK HQ or Cardiff Gate, with hybrid working (minimum 40% in-person).

35 hours per week, 15 months maternity cover, starting December 2024.

Salary per annum £47,745 - £53,934* plus London weighting if applicable

At the Royal College of Nursing we are committed to providing the best possible work experience for our staff. We’re a trade union and professional body, with over 1,100 staff supporting a membership of over half a million nurses, nursing students, nursing support workers, midwives and nurse leaders.
We exist to make a positive difference – to the working lives of our members and ultimately to standards in patient care. As an employer, we aim to inform, involve and inspire our people, providing opportunities for them to speak up and influence, shape what we do and celebrate the incredible difference they make.

Our employees are drawn from many walks of life and our internal communications team is no exception.

We're accredited with Investors in People Silver Standard. Our people are our greatest asset, and we want people who can contribute to our purpose in line with our values.

As our Senior Group Internal Communications Officer you’ll use your positive and proactive approach and your knowledge of internal comms best practice to deliver multi-channel, engaging communications plans for internal projects.

Willing to test, evaluate and learn, you’ll help drive forward our internal communications practice, advising project leads and senior staff on the best possible way to communicate and engage with our people.

This is a job full of possibilities as you’ll work closely with staff across the RCN Group, ensuring - based on the knowledge and understanding you’ll proactively build – that content and messaging is relevant to each and every audience. You could be involved in anything from our Fair Pay for Nursing campaign to the introduction of new systems and the development of new internal communications channels.

We'll look to you to support our leaders to communicate effectively and with efficacy.

To join us you’ll need exceptional written communication skills and, ideally, a background in an internal communications or similar communications-focussed role. You’ll need to know how to measure the impact of your work, present this to senior staff and use your learnings to influence future activities.

You’ll be confident taking ownership of projects, developing strategic communication plans and supporting staff to develop their internal communications practice.

Whatever your background, you'll be efficient, accurate and show a real customer focus in all you do.

To succeed at the Royal College of Nursing all you need to do is think bigger, better and brighter. And with an attitude like that, anything’s possible.

What we offer you

We expect you to look after your customers. And we expect you to be rewarded for it. We offer an impressive range of benefits, a broad range of learning development opportunities and an award-winning health and wellbeing programme. We offer annual leave up to 32 days plus bank holidays and three additional days for the Christmas break plus generous maternity, adoption, paternity, and shared parental leave packages.

  • We offer a competitive pay structure with annual pay progression until you reach the top of the salary scale. We normally offer new employees the first point of the salary range, although you may be able to negotiate a higher starting salary depending on your skills, experience and current salary.
We are a diverse organisation and understand everyone has different needs and many of our employees enjoy flexible working enabling them to deliver results whilst having a good work life balance. Our hybrid working model allows for up to 60% of your working time to be carried out from home.

At least 40% of your working time will be spent working in person.
