Job overview

Medical Secretary ideally with experience of using EPR/Bluespier/KP+, scheduling patients for theatre, booking outpatient appointments, being able to prioritise workload and to be a team player.

The post is based within the ENT Department.

The post holder will provide secretarial support to the department Consultants, designated medical staff and their teams.

The postholder will be responsible for maintaining records both manually and on a computer system and demonstrate the ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information, ie clinical letters, investigations and results.

The postholder acts as the first point of contact for all the forms of communication for the Consultants and medical team from GP's, patients and relatives, other hospitals.

Main duties of the job

Acting as link between patients, GP's, wards and theatres

Using the electronic patient system (EPR)

Scheduling patients on Bluespier in house system

Validating patient pathways using KP+

We employ more than 6,500 staff who deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals, Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, health centres and in patients’ homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.

We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.

We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Education to GCSE Maths & English or equivalent A-C
  • RSA III (or equivalent typing/word processing)
  • Competent audio typing skills
Desirable criteria
  • Willing to undertake further development/training in all aspects of waiting list management

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in a busy office
  • Medical Terminology
  • Knowledge of National & Local guidelines on waiting list key standard targets
  • Waiting list management/scheduling experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft packages such as Word, outlook, excel
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to use tact and diplomacy when required.
  • Ability to prioritise workload & work under pressure maintaining accuracy and managing deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of EPR, Bluespier, KP+

You may be required to undertake a DBS. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £54.40, Standard £26.40 or Basic £26.40) from your salary when you commence in post (including Internal staff).

You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £16 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
