Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced ward clerk to join our Gynaecology Preop Assessment unit. You will be the first point of contact for many patients coming into our care for elective gynaecological surgery.
We are a small but busy department, working as part of a wider Multi Disciplinary Team. The ward clerk is responsible for the administrative organisation of each clinic, working alongside the nursing team to enable we provide a smooth, efficient service for our patients.
The post holder must be enthusiatic, conscientious and diligent, with excellent organisational and communication skills and will be supported by the nursing and administrative managers.
Main duties of the job
Responsibility for the smooth and efficient running of clinics, sourcing and ensuring all notes are ready for the clinic
Preparing notes for clinics further ahead in the week
Answering calls and queries from patients/families
Booking patients in and out of the clinic and completing coding
Escalating concerns to the Nurse in Charge or Departmental Manager
Booking patient interpreting services

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria- Keyboard skills /Word processing
- Previous experience within the NHS as a receptionist/ward clerk
- Good communicator/Empathy with patients and visitors
- Ability to organize own work and to work on own initiative
- Competent on Lorenzo or willing to train/Ability to work as part of a team
Motivation and Disposition
Essential criteria- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work to deadlines and be flexible to the needs of the service
- Full understanding of confidentiality and data protection
Practical
Essential criteria- Willingness to be flexible as and when required
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Have an awareness/ understanding of safeguarding adults and children
