An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join us as Pathology Quality Manager, at the Royal Oldham Hospital on a permanent basis. The post holder will be responsible for the design and implementation of the laboratory quality management system in addition to ensuring that the department becomes progressively more effective in terms of quality and meets both regulatory and accreditation requirements.

The post holder will work with the senior leadership team across the Norther Care Alliance (NCA) specifically with the Quality Manager at our Salford and within the wider Diagnostics & Pharmacy Quality Governance team.

You shall be HCPC registered and have an IBMS accredited MSC, Higher Specialist Diploma or Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Scientists and ideally hold a certificate/diploma in management.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others. The candidate should have a track record for achievement and implementing change, coupled with a desire to improve and succeed in this role.

The main purpose of the job is to provide professional leadership and specialist advice for quality across Pathology at the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) and Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh (WWL), developing an integrated Pathology Service, and contributing to the strategic planning for Pathology quality issues.

The post-holder will be required to determine the needs and requirements of the users of the Pathology services including patients and to specify these as objectives for the organisation and management of the Pathology Division. In addition to, providing guidance, help and advice to the Pathology Service Managers on quality and issues, having delegated authority from the Divisional Managing Director of Pathology to review practice and implement actions.

The post-holder must ensure understanding of the relevant national statutory requirements, and the clinical governance, risk management and quality audit policies and procedures of the Trust and have full understanding of and be able to implement the UKAS ISO 15189 (2022) standards.

Responsibilities will also include working in conjunction with the Pathology departmental quality leads ensure compliance with all regulatory standards throughout the Pathology division e.g., UKAS, MHRA, HSE, HTA etc. Following up external inspections and verifying the completion of corrective actions as required by the inspection reports will be a key part of this role.
