Main duties include:
  • Assess the care needs of patients and develop a programme of evidence based practice care which is evaluated and amended as appropriate without direct supervision.
  • To maintain clinical competence through CPD and mandatory training requirements.
  • To ensure clear and timely record keeping of all assessments and care provided.
  • Maintain good communication with patients and their relatives including the MDT.
  • Utilise, maintain and understand NUH evidence based policies and guidelines to ensure safety of care.

The post holder is required to have completed undergraduate study within the next 6 months and have/be awaiting NMC registration as a ADULT nurse.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

NUH is a large acute teaching hospital and there are opportunities to develop key skills across all divisions.

At NUH we are pleased to be able to offer all newly qualified nurses a supportive preceptorship period. This is led by the practice education team at the Trust and this programme includes-

Preceptorship Induction- an introduction to preceptorship at NUH and access to the preceptorship portfolio.

Acute care skills course- a 5 day course developing skills to recognise, treat and escalate the care of a deteriorating patient in a safe and timely manner.

Medicine safety study day- a 1 day study session highlighting measures to ensure the safe administration of medicines.

Resilience focused clinical supervision- these sessions are available to all nurses who join the Trust, this type of supervision provides the opportunity to have a safe and confidential environment to share experiences alongside other newly qualified nurses.

Careers conversations- NUH host monthly careers conversations to discuss career opportunities, this event can also be used to seek support with role related packages or access a one to one resilience focused clinical supervision session with a member of the practice education team.

Preceptorship pledge- All newly qualified nurses will have a preceptor allocated to them within the clinical area, a preceptorship pledge has been created to support this role ensuring that all preceptors are aware of their responsibilities when supporting colleagues.
