We are seeking multiple enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our DEXA Team at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our growing DEXA service at RJAH. RJAH is a lead provider for DEXA for a large catchment area and in Autumn/Winter 2024 our service will be expanding with an additional DEXA scanner giving the service two scanners.
The right candidate will be a proactive and positive member of the team that will work effectively and efficiently with our patients and their families an carers, and the wider multi-disciplinary team. The service is operational seven days a week and we have roles available for both part time and full time.

Main duties of the job
Support those patients undergoing their scan, ensuring their comfort and dignity and supporting the Radiographer to perform of manual handling of patients. Supporting phlebotomy (blood collection) for DEXA patients. Undertaking cleaning and ensuring infection prevent and control good practice.
Collecting key patient information (height and weight) and use of the DEXA information systems to record patient information.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Assist the Radiographer with cleaning and IPC (Infection Prevention and Control
Attend to the needs of the patient, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
To support with patient data collation to improve patient experience, care and enhance outcomes.
To take relevant patient information prior to their appointment such as height and weight.
To support with Phlebotomy for DEXA patients.
Ensure that the necessary documentation accompanies the patient.
Use of the DEXA Information Systems to record patient information.
Assist the Radiographer with the manual handling of patients.
To act as chaperone for some examinations.
To assist Radiographer in the imaging room.
Liaise with relevant staff/nurses/Consultants.
Escort patients within the DEXA department.
To assist with the moving of beds and wheelchairs and assisting the patient onto the imaging table.
To ensure the continuous flow of patients through the DEXA rooms.
To reassure the patient and provide basic information.
To ensure the relevant documentation follows the patient.
To maintain the tidiness and cleanliness of the examination room.
To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
To comply with Health and Safety rules, the local rules for the protection of persons against ionising radiation, and the agreed policies and procedures of the Trust.
To be able to use the EPR (Electronic Patient Record) hospital computer system as well as any DEXA related systems.
To communicate and liaise with the DEXA, Metabolic, and Rheumatology staff.
To communicate general information to patients and visitors.

Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria- GCSE or equivalent English & Mathematics grade D or above
- NVQ level 2 in Health Care or equivalent Phlebotomy trained
Knowledge/Experience
Essential criteria- Hospital environment and medical terminology.
- Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality and data security requirements
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria- Patient care skills including a pleasant and professional manner.
- Good forward planning and ability to manage and prioritise own workload effectively.
- Ability to handle a high volume of work
- Good oral and written communication.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- IT literate
