UHBW have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Outpatient Receptionist / Administration Assistant working in Seashore Paediatrics.

This role is full time Monday to Friday.

Based at Weston General Hospital.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 29th January 2025

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within University Hospitals Bristol & Weston and be responsible for providing a welcoming and efficient service as the patient’s first point of contact with the hospital. This will include greeting and signposting patients and relatives, processing patients using the Electronic Patient Record system (ERS) and liaising with clinicians and colleagues to facilitate a smooth and timely flow of patients through the department.

The role is responsible for setting high standards of patient care by enacting the Trust’s values at all times.

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Basic knowledge of NHS related legislation and codes of practice i.e. confidentiality and data protection
  • A good understanding of how to work electrical equipment i.e. computers, photocopiers and printers
  • Knowledge and experience of using computer systems and Microsoft Package
  • Relevant experience of working in a fast paced office environment
  • Experience of team working to achieve performance targets
  • Experience of working with the public
Desirable criteria
  • A basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in the NHS or similar organisation

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent/professional telephone/ reception manner
  • Flexible approach to duties
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy
  • Proven good organisational skills
  • Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft packages
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good customer service

  • Reception experience

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of general education i.e. at least 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above
  • ECDL, or equivalent qualification or experience of using computer systems and following Microsoft office packages – Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Administrative qualification or working towards e.g. NVQ level 2, or equivalent qualification or experience
