SCOPE AND GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
Environmental Enforcement Officer’s (EEO) protect the environment from crime, witnesses of crime and providing enforcement action on behalf of local authorities.

Times of work
  1. hour shifts, 5 days over 7 shift pattern.
Salary
£24,960, hourly rate of £12.
Terms of the role
Full time and permanent, subject to 6-month probationary period.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Main purpose of the role

As an EEO, you'll work in partnership with Brentwood Borough Council. You will serve to enforce the environment, by way of issuing on the spot fixed penalty notices for any offences of littering, dog fouling and public space protection orders that are in place.
You also will be required to attend fly tipping offences and investigate the reported waste. You also will be required to attend domestic and commercial duty of care offences. The purpose of the role is to reduce the amount of public money that goes into clearing up waste and improve the quality of life for all citizens.

You'll use a range of technology to support the role, identify the perpetrators of offences and ensure that process is followed so that successful prosecutions is achieved if the case proceeds to court. No experience is necessary as full training is provided.

National Enforcement Solutions mission is to make communities cleaner:

EEO’s work closely with members of the criminal justice system, local authorities, schools, local businesses, housing authorities, town planners and community groups to provide engagement, education and enforcement on behalf of those who want to reduce environmental crime or have been affected by this behaviour.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a visible presence to deter crime and reassure the local authority that we serve.
  • Conduct patrol duties on foot and by car.
  • Develop community knowledge to identify individuals and locations at risk of being affected.
  • Respond requests from the council to investigate incidents.
  • Work alongside communities, liaising with community groups and individuals.
  • Diffuse potentially confrontational situations with due regard for the safety of yourself colleagues and members of the public.
  • Act with sensitivity when dealing with situations that could mean persons are vulnerable.
  • Conduct initial investigations, gather evidence, complete statements, and comply with relevant legal requirements.
  • Interview suspects and witnesses in accordance with PACE 1984
  • Issue fixed penalty notices (FPNS)
  • Prepare cases for court, present case files to senior officers and the local authority ready for the crown prosecution service (CPS) (England and Wales)
  • Attend and give evidence in court and at other hearings.
  • Complete administrative procedures.
  • Submit internal crime reports and criminal intelligence reports.
  • Act on information received from members of the public.
  • Gather, record, and analyse intelligence to achieve environmental crime reduction objectives and provide crime prevention advice.
  • Take direction on specific duties from senior colleagues.
  • Investigate and evidence gather reported Fly tipping incidents and report findings back to your Team Manager.
  • Enforce littering, dog fouling, Public Space Protection Orders, domestic and commercial duty of care.
A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.

Please note that all candidates will have to go through a DBS process prior to employment and will need a full five-year checkable work history.

FLEXABILITY

All job roles could be subject change due to operational and client needs. You may be asked to take on other tasks within the business during certain periods of a working week.
