About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and experienced Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (QTVI) to contribute to the success of the Vision Support Team and Assistive Technology for Education Support Team (ATfEST) by joining the team as a Team Manager, for 2.5 days a week. This role is shared with the existing Team Manager who also works for 2.5 days a week.
The Vision Support Team (VST) is a well-regarded and welcoming team, consisting of QTVIs and a specialist practitioner, while the ATfEST team consists of Assistive Technology Technicians, Resource Production Technicians and an Assistive Technology Tutor.As part of Specialist Teaching Service, the Vision Support Team aims to improve opportunities, outcomes and experiences for children and young people with SEND in partnership with families, educational settings and organisations.
The management role includes recruitment and effective management of staff, including performance management, team development and supporting wellbeing. The VST manager role is responsible for leading on the review and development of service delivery, working in partnership with schools, educational settings and other agencies, and coordinating resources to meet increasing demands.
You will be supporting and managing staff with a caseload responsibility and will have a small caseload responsibility also, so will be confident in approaches to teaching and providing support and advice to vision impaired children and young people (0-25 years), their families, carers, and educational settings within a multi-agency context.
Close liaison and strategic work with local Vision services and Health teams are key parts of this role. Other duties will include, managing assistive technology resourcing, budget management and using data to develop service delivery.
Support will be provided by the Service Manager, other STS Team Managers and knowledgeable Vision Support Team. There will be a wide range of professional development available, including access to training and mentoring.
Please note: LCC provisions for annual leave apply to staff on Leadership scales. Full-time employees are entitled to 27 days (below 5 continuous years’ service) or 32 days (above 5 years’ continuous service), plus 8 nominated days for public holidays.Employees on Leadership scale will also be entitled to an additional 10 days annual leave which can be taken in term time.
A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
About You
To apply for this post, you must:
- Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired, with evidence of ongoing training and development
- Leadership experience in monitoring, evaluating, reviewing, and developing team performance, including experience of effective management in the appointment, professional development and deployment of staff
- Knowledge of effective teaching and learning approaches, including training delivery, to support the attainment and inclusion of pupils with SEND, particularly blind or visually impaired children and young people.
- Experience of working in partnership with education settings, Health and other support services and agencies to improve outcomes for pupils
- Significant experience of working appropriately in accordance with relevant statutory and local policies and procedures for SEND and the ability carry out all duties in line with LCC Safeguarding policies and procedures and fulfil relevant safeguarding competencies
- Ability to actively demonstrate the values of the authority: Positivity; Trust and respect; Flexibility; Openness and transparency
- Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010. This will include requirements to work flexibly around holiday periods in line with the service requirements and access to a vehicle with the ability to travel to temporary bases such as schools, touch-down bases etc
