Job overview- Work on the provision of effective and efficient pharmacy services to Medicines Information and Oncology Services
- Deliver comprehensive, high-quality, efficient Medicines Information services in line with local and national objectives
- Answer complex specialist ophthalmic Medicines Information enquiries
- Cover dispensing activities for Ocular Oncology and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) prescriptions
- Coordinate the weekly courier arrangement for Ocular Oncology prescriptions
- Provide a wide range of administrative support to the section
- In the absence of the Lead Pharmacist, the post holder will be responsible for managing, coordinating and monitoring the quality and workflow of Medicines Information Services
- Work with the Pharmacy Leads on service developments and to ensure that Pharmacy services meet the needs of the users
- Act as line manager to Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPTs), Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs)/apprentices as necessary
- Participate in the departmental roster to provide operational cover in the pharmacy dispensary and act as an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) as stated in departmental procedures to ensure safe and effective pharmacy service is provided to Moorfields patients
- Promote the implementation of important Trust initiatives in order to enhance patient experience and ensure an excellent and cost-efficient service is provided
- To support the lead pharmacists in the delivery of a comprehensive specialist ophthalmic and general medicines information service
- To assist the Lead Pharmacist in planning and developing Medicines Information services in line with local and national objectives
- To assist the Lead Pharmacist in implementing medicines information systems improvements including audit
- To assist the developing and writing policies, procedures etc
- To provide and receive highly complex information and communicate effectively to others
- To answer patient-specific enquiries about medicines
- To perform literature and database searches, and contact external agencies
- To critically evaluate, interpret, analyse evidence from searches, and use clinical expertise to apply this to the patient context
- To work in conjunction with the hospital nurse patient helpline by assisting them with their Medicines Information enquiries
- To assist in collecting regular Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data on the Medicines Information Services
- To cover dispensing activities for Ocular Oncology and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) prescriptions
- To participate in the departmental roster to provide operational cover in the pharmacy dispensary and act as an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT)
- To act as line manager of Pharmacy support technical staff and be responsible for their setting objectives, appraisals, sickness absence and performance management and all related procedures for these groups of staff

Qualifications
Essential criteria- BTEC or NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical services or equivalent
- Registered with the GPhC as a pharmacy technician
- Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT)
- NVQ Assessors qualification
- UK MI Accredited Medicines Information training programme for Pharmacy Technicians
Experience
Essential criteria- Hospital pharmacy experience including providing clinical pharmacy services
- Medicines Information experience
- Experience in training healthcare professionals
- Supervision of junior staff
Skills
Essential criteria- Spreadsheet and database skills
- Organisation and prioritisation skills
- Problem solving abilities
- Excellent communication skills
- EMIS/Ascribe pharmacy dispensing system
