We are seeking to employ a Sports Coach Graduate for the 2024-2025 Academic Year to contribute to our sports, physical education and boarding programs. We are looking for an individual with experience as a player or early-career coach in football.

Experience of playing or coaching in the US collegiate system is desirable.

A graduate placement year in the sports department of Millfield School (senior) will provide an unrivalled opportunity to develop your skills in one of the UK’s leading Independent Schools for boys and girls, aged 13-18 years.

Millfield is not like other schools and never has been. Founded in 1935, Millfield’s vision is to be the world leader for the development of children. There are nearly 1300 students at the senior school (Year 9 to U6) and a further 450 students at the neighbouring Prep School.

Millfield’s size brings great opportunity, and the facilities are unmatched in the UK: an Olympic-sized swimming pool, state of the art hockey/rugby/football pitches, golf courses, indoor centres for tennis, golf, cricket and an equestrian centre; concert hall, recording studio, theatre, art gallery, hi-tech Science block and outstanding teaching facilities; and high-quality boarding accommodation.

We are seeking a coaching graduate to be involved in all aspects of the design and delivery of a programme including planning, coaching, and contributing to the support services (athletic development, analysis, nutrition) of our talented student athletes.

Coaches with experience of the US collegiate system will also work alongside our Futures department to support our student athletes considering the US pathway. Coaching graduates who live in Millfield accommodation will also be expected to contribute to our boarding programme.

A coaching graduate will have the opportunity to develop some of the knowledge and skills gained from an Undergraduate or Masters degree. Successful candidates should be confident, reliable and have good interpersonal skills as well as showing a willingness to be involved in all areas of school life.

Candidates should either be enrolled in or recently graduated from Sports Science, Sports Coaching, or similar degrees. Applicants will have participated regularly in their sport to a good standard and ideally hold coaching qualifications in relevant activities.

The post runs for a full academic year with breaks for School holidays. Graduates with onsite accommodation will work 39 hours per week which will be divided between Sport, Futures and boarding commitments (an average of 6 hours per week on evening duties in the boarding programme and one weekend in three).

You will receive £13,732.57 salary per annum along with full board and lodgings (non-monetary, to the value of £3,006.99 per annum).

Graduates not living in Millfield accommodation will not be expected to contribute towards the boarding programme and will work the full 39 hours per week in their sports department, receiving £17,182.31 per annum.

There is a formal personal development programme provided as part of the placement opportunity which is overseen by the Head of Sports Coaching and many expert staff within the department. This has a value more than £2500.
