The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2024/2025 and will be implemented in November 2024 backdated to 1st April 2024 where applicable.

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Ophthalmology Team at Prince Philip Hospital. Applications are invited from efficient and suitably qualified individuals for the post of a part time Band 3 Clinical Secretary within the Ophthalmology Team based at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.

Main duties of the job

Working 22.5 hours per week, the successful candidate will be required to support the delivery of a comprehensive and quality secretarial service to the Consultants and their teams.

You will undertake a wide-range of duties including receipt and distribution of mail, audio transcription, and the typing of highly sensitive letters and reports, maintaining confidentiality at all times, in addition to operation of the Health Board’s patient database system.

You will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisation skills and be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work. You must be able to work on your initiative, use tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills.

Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and E-Mail, coupled with previous experience of working in an administrative/office environment. The post will include audio typing clinical information and correspondence.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 or equivalent level of competency in Word Processing and Audio Transcription experience.
  • Knowledge of a range of secretarial procedures
  • Knowledge of Software programmes – e.g. Microsoft packages, e-mail Internet and databases.
  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent
  • Proof of appropriate Continuous Professional Development
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level II Administration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous secretarial and/or administration experience.
  • Health Service experience – familiar with the use of medical terms.
