Role Overview
We are looking for a technically strong and detail-oriented Financial Reporting Controller to join our finance team at a pivotal time of growth and change. This is a newly created role designed to take ownership of and enhance our statutory reporting capabilities and strengthen our internal control environment, especially as we move into a phase of US GAAP reporting requirements and potential applicability of SOX 404 compliance following a recently announced new ownership by a US-listed group.
This role is ideally suited for a qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA) with an audit background looking to make their first move into industry. It offers significant exposure to financial compliance, statutory reporting, and internal controls, and plays a critical part in helping the business scale its finance operations for the future.
Key Responsibilities- Statutory Reporting & Audit
- Lead the preparation of statutory accounts under UK GAAP.
- Own the audit process (and half year reviews as may be required) with external auditors, ensuring efficient and on-time delivery of audits
- Manage monthly, quarterly and other ad hoc external financial reporting requirements to our US investors.
- Take a lead role in tax compliance/reporting (eg VAT, Corporation Tax, etc).
- Take ownership of balance sheet reconciliation process (utilising other team members for preparation of some of these reconciliations), ensuring a robust reconciliation and review process and early identification of balance sheet risks etc
- Internal Controls & SOX Readiness
- Lead the development and documentation of internal control procedures, particularly in relation to fraud risk and financial reporting controls.
- Assist in the assessment of SOX 404 applicability and, if required, play a central role in preparing for SOX compliance and audit readiness.
- Coordinate internal testing and ensure appropriate documentation for auditor sign-off.
- Technical Accounting & Reporting
- Manage financial consolidation and transition/reconciliation between UK GAAP base ledgers and US GAAP group reporting as required.
- Ensure good quality and timely financial reporting to stakeholders, including US parent
- Provide technical accounting support across the business, taking ownership of accounting policies and their application.
- Systems & Process Improvement
- Operate comfortably across financial systems, with an interest in developing new processes and controls.
- While prior Dynamics experience is not required, a proactive approach to systems and a general ease with technology is essential.
- Manage other elements of the day-to-day finance function such as Balance Sheet recs, VAT reporting, Fixed Assets, general day to day ledger control.
- Collaborate with other finance team members to ensure a balanced distribution of responsibilities across the department, and become a key partner to the Head Of Finance (and, indirectly, the CFO)
- Support junior members of the team to improve their own skills, processes and support them on their own qualification journeys.
Requirements
About You- ACA/ACCA qualified, ideally with 1–3 years post-qualification experience in audit.
- Strong technical grounding in UK GAAP (or IFRS) and statutory reporting.
- A drive for good internal controls, compliance and financial process improvement.
- Comfortable working in a fast-changing, growing environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently whilst, at the same time, being a team player
- Interest in learning and growing with the business; a proactive and adaptable mindset.
- Exposure to US GAAP or SOX compliance
- Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics or similar ERP systems.
- Experience with Power Query, Power BI etc
