Specialty Nurse for the Lung Cancer Screening Programme

Leadership and professional responsibilities 1. Acts as secondary care lead nurse, across the Trust, including for more junior staff within the team. 2. Leads and develops standards of care and management of patients in the pathway. 3. Working with the Lung Cancer Screening Programme lead consultant leads to develop policies and processes across the Trust in relation to delivery of lung cancer screening.
4. Supports staff in the investigation of complaints (formal and informal) and serious incidents requiring investigation. 5. Attendance and involvement in local and wider MDT meetings with colleagues from both primary and secondary care. 6. Undertake the appropriate professional portfolio of work in agreement with the Associate Chief Nursing Officer 7.
Lead on nurse led clinics for Lung Cancer Screening Programme and work alongside the lead consultant for Lung Cancer Screening Programme to see patients in MDT clinic 8. Management of the virtual nodule pathway. Ensuring patients are monitored and scanned at appropriate time intervals.
Escalating any delays. Skills 9. Professionals involved in screening assessment are expected to fulfil the requirements for individual professional training and for their continuing professional development. They should carry out assessments and procedures regularly, so they can maintain their skills and competence.
Multidisciplinary Team Co-ordination 10. To be responsible for supporting the Lung Cancer Screening Programme coordinator in arranging and coordinating MDT meetings within the Trust and at regional and where relevant Network level. 11. To work with the Lung Cancer Screening Programme coordinator to develop agendas for MDT meetings making judgements on content and timing of meetings.
12. To support the Lung Cancer Screening Programme coordinator to coordinate and distribute the list of patients for discussion at each meeting, highlighting any patient delays, and to communicate the cut-off time for the referral of patients for discussion to appropriate medical staff.
