We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Band 5 Senior Peer Support Worker, to work in our brand-new Transitional Care Team, dedicated to help young people transition from Children's MH Services to Adult MH Services.

The role of Senior Peer Support Worker (PSW) has been developed specifically for people who have lived experience of recovery from mental health challenges and experience of professionally utilising these experiences within mental health settings as Peer Support Workers.

Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, you will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. In the context of The Young Persons Transition Pathway, you will, with guidance from the Trust-wide Lived Experience Leadership Team and Senior Peer Support Workers, facilitate and support the expansion of Peer Support Worker roles in the team.

Main duties of the job
  1. To provide high quality individual supervision to Peer Support Workers in community services within the allocated location.
  2. To be actively involved in the process of recruitment of Peer Support Workers including being on interview panels.
  3. To proactively engage and work with a range of internal services including Human Resources and Occupational Health to ensure robust processes are in operation for the recruitment and maintenance of wellbeing of the Peer Support Workers.
  4. To effectively co-deliver training, including the accredited ‘Developing Expertise in Peer Support’, ‘Peer Support Worker Team Preparation’ sessions in readiness for peer support workers taking up post within teams; and learning and development activities within the Recovery College.
  5. To maintain professional relationships with particular attention to confidentiality and the maintenance of boundaries.

The Young Persons Transition Pathway provides mental health support to young people transitioning from Children’s Mental Health services to Adult Mental Health Services. We follow a “person centred” model of service delivery focusing on the direct needs of the Young Person, working across boundaries of care, organisation and role.

Regular hours would be 09:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday. You will need to travel over a large geographical area so access to suitable transport is required for this role.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Completed Peer Support Worker training (preferably accredited)
  • • Evidence of further training in relation to personal recovery principles
  • • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development
Desirable criteria
  • • Accredited certificate in Life Coaching

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Own personal lived experience of recovery from mental health challenges
  • • Recent (experience of having transitioned from Young Persons to Adult mental health services.
  • • Experience of having personally utilised secondary mental health services
  • • Experience of positively sharing own life experiences, and personal recovery journey, with service users, carers and others
Desirable criteria
  • • Undertaking evaluations, audit and research
  • • Delivery of Recovery College courses

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to demonstrate first person experiential knowledge of recovery
  • • Evidence of good interpersonal skills and an ability to form peer relationships with service users and carers
  • • Ability to communicate on all levels and to a broad scope of individuals, both internally and externally to the Trust
Desirable criteria
  • • Working knowledge of the principles of coproduction
