The post is situated within the Forensic Division and located in a High Secure Hospital setting. The post holder will work within the Hair Salons and on the wards, providing a Hairdressing and Beauty service for the individual patients within the hospital working as part of a small team.

The role entails the individual to work independently, use their own initiative and to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team contributing to the assessment, treatment and discharge planning of high risk patients in high secure care.

Main duties of the job
  • Trained to NVQ Level III in hairdressing/barbering or equivalent or equivalent experience, GCSE/GCE or equivalent in English.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own workload and the work of others, manage own time effectively under supervision.
  • To work under the direction and leadership of registered professional undertaking duties as requested and delegated.
  • Good general educational background, effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of liaising with other departments and services and professional colleagues
  • Ability to set and maintain appropriate professional boundaries
  • Significant experience and positive attitude of working with high risk mentally disordered offenders. To have a basic understanding of the different types of mental illness and maintain an understanding and caring approach.
  • Significant experience of developing and delivering pre-engagement therapeutic programmes
  • Skilled at interpersonal relationships with service users
  • Adaptability, flexibility good time management skills
  • Self-Motivated
  • Recording of statistical information e.g. Attendance records
  • Basic IT skills to include word and email.
  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness in line with infection prevention and control guidelines.

Essential criteria

  • Other relevant Hairdressing & Beauty qualifications, and other alternative therapies.
  • Training in specific hairdressing techniques including Afro-Caribbean and Barber designs
