We are currently seeking a committed and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Learning Support Assistant to join a dedicated team at a specialist school in Winchester. The school provides tailored education for pupils aged 4–11 with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties and disabilities.

Many of the pupils also present with additional co-occurring conditions, including autism, Down syndrome, and various physical disabilities.

This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine and lasting impact on the lives of children by supporting them throughout the school day—in the classroom, during outdoor play and sensory activities, and through daily routines such as arrival, departure, and lunchtime.

This is a varied and rewarding role within a dynamic educational environment, where your contribution will be central to ensuring each child can access the curriculum in a manner suited to their individual needs, while promoting their safety, well-being, and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support for pupils across both primary and secondary school sites, with the option to express a preference for a particular site.
  • Support students with a broad range of complex learning and physical needs, ensuring they are fully engaged in all aspects of school life.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement personalised learning plans.
  • Assist in the delivery of sessions involving specialist school facilities, such as the sensory room and hydrotherapy pool.
  • Attend to pupils’ personal care and emotional needs, creating a nurturing and secure learning environment.
  • Support pupils during transitions, lunchtime, and key daily routines, ensuring their comfort and inclusion.
  • Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and collaborative learning atmosphere that supports each pupil’s progress and development.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs (desirable, but not essential).
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children with complex needs.
  • Flexibility to work across both primary and secondary age groups, with consideration given to site preference.
  • An enthusiasm for engaging students in a wide variety of educational and sensory activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • A current enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
