An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 6 Orthopaedic Practitioner with BOA Casting Certificate and with excellent communication skills to work as part of the Royal London Hospital’s Fracture Clinic team for paediatric services.

Fracture Clinic is a diverse, multidisciplinary environment which requires flexible and adaptable skills, an aptitude to learn and a motivation to develop your own skills. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and committed to give high quality care and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. You will consistently ensure that patient's privacy, dignity and psychological well-being is maintained as well as providing patient centred care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing individual patient care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating plans of care in accordance with agreed policies and professional guidelines by providing a plastering service for the paediatric orthopaedic clinic, supporting theatres, inpatient areas and other areas within fracture clinic.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of casting and splinting service provision across our paediatric orthopaedic services. The post holder will work as an integral member of the orthopaedic team with dedication to our paediatric population.

The post holder will work within a designated clinical space, but will might need to support other clinical areas if required.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BOA registered (British Orthopaedic Association)
  • AOT(Association of Orthopaedic Technician) Ponseti Course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Other professional education qualification
  • Paediatric Basic Life Support

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with children 0 – 16 years old
  • 2 years post qualification in an outpatient orthopaedic setting or extensive experience working as plaster technician in clinical area
Desirable criteria
  • Talipes Experience- working with children 0-16 years old

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Effective communicator, able to provide and receive complex, sensitive information.
  • Able to work without supervision and use own initiative
  • Awareness of own knowledge and Skills Framework with ability to identify learning needs
  • Ability to take an active role in agreed learning activities and personal development
  • Sound clinical skills (wound care, removal of sutures, clips and K-wires)
  • Organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
  • Able to make appropriate clinical referrals for ongoing care management of patients
  • Able to make appropriate clinical referrals for ongoing care management of patients
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with Virtual Fracture Clinic
  • Previous experience in teaching/training
