Are you a registered technician looking for a new challenge and a chance to expand your knowledge and experience. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic, forward thinking Dispensary Team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, conscientious and ambitious pharmacy technician to participate in and support the provision, development and leadership of our well established team.

This is a fixed term post for 12 months for maternity leave cover. Applications are welcome from candidates interested in full and part time hours, and from technicians practising in community pharmacy who wish to gain hospital experience.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake a wide range of tasks within the dispensary and take a lead in a specific area.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  1. To ensure the pharmacy dispensary is managed and operated in accordance with departmental policy and in line with Trust and patient priorities.
  2. Provides day-to-day management for the group of technical staff.
  3. To participate in the recruitment and selection of dispensary and other pharmacy staff including the chairing of selection panels.
  4. To maintain and develop the dispensary policies and procedures ensuring that these are adhered to by all staff using the dispensary.
  5. To be responsible for the management of Controlled Drugs in the dispensary.
  6. Ensure that agreed performance targets are met and that monitoring arrangements are operated and reported appropriately.
  7. To maintain and develop effective communication structure for pharmacy dispensary staff.
  8. To manage the undertaking of dispensing and checking competencies by pharmacy dispensary staff including pharmacist, pre-registration trainees, pharmacy technicians and assistant technical officers.
  9. To maintain and develop dispensary induction programmes for new members of pharmacy staff.
  10. To lead in the operation of dispensary aspects of clinical trials including liaison with trial nurses and sponsors.
  11. To actively manage the dispensary stock and holding including regular stock takes and reviews.
  12. To undertake departmental surveys and audits when necessary, to act upon the results to improve the quality of services provided to patients.
  13. To ensure all dispensary staff are trained to use the pharmacy automation systems.
  14. To ensure the optimal use of the pharmacy automation system including management of system faults, liaison with system suppliers.
  15. To ensure that all dispensary staff are trained in the use of dispensary aspects of the pharmacy computer system.
  16. To ensure that dispensing errors are reported and reviewed in accordance with trust policy and that where necessary remedial actions are agreed and implemented.
  17. Provide medicine management support to Ashgate Hospice

Qualifications

  • Level 3 NVQ or BTEC equivalent
