Teacher of Spanish
The position could be full-time or part-time, for example 4 days per week in the Summer Term and 4 to 4.5 days per week from September through January, depending on timetabling. Currently there are no lessons timetabled on a Friday for this position.
The ideal candidate should be a well-qualified and highly motivated teaching professional who has an active interest in educational technology (EdTech), particularly with regard to the use of iPads in the classroom. They will have demonstrable ability to teach outstanding lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4; will demonstrate a genuine interest and passion for the subject; will have excellent classroom management skills; and will be able to inspire and motivate our Year 7 to Year 11 pupils through a diverse range of teaching styles.
Experience of teaching GCSE groups is essential and a knowledge of the Edexcel GCSE 9-1 specifications in Spanish and Viva! textbooks would be highly advantageous.
The successful candidate will consistently model excellent practice and will look to make a significant contribution to the planning, teaching and assessment within the MFL department. It is essential that they have proven excellence in all aspects of the Spanish language, possess good English and have a detailed grammatical knowledge of both Spanish and English.They must be a team-player, able to work in close partnership with other members of the MFL department and be fully committed to developing our students’ spoken, reading, listening and writing abilities in Spanish, as well as their cultural understanding and appreciation of Spain and Spanish-speaking countries.
The Modern Foreign Languages department at Harrodian is thriving and well-resourced. Teaching is lively and innovative and we run a range of subject-related enrichment activities, including lunchtime clubs and trips. The department is centred around a friendly staff base, currently comprising twelve highly qualified teachers and five native-speaker language assistants, offering teaching in Italian, French and Spanish between them.Spanish is well-subscribed and the Spanish department consists of four teachers and two language assistants. Pupils are taught French from Year 1 and from Year 7 choose to study two languages from either French, Italian, Spanish or Latin. Results are very strong, with virtually all students gaining 9-5 grades in one or two MFL GCSEs.
All three languages are taught to A level.
Teaching staff at Harrodian should look to contribute fully across the School; they can expect to lead a form, run lunch-time/after-school clubs and contribute to shaping the extra-curricular life of the school, provide cover teaching and carry out duties.Involvement with these responsibilities will particularly suit a teacher with strong organisational and communication skills.

Working days and hours
Standard teaching working hours during term-time are: Mondays from 08h00 to 17h00 and Tuesdays to Fridays from 08h15 to 17h00.
