The Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society (CBSS) at the Usher Institute, The University of Edinburgh, is looking for a Research Fellow (working within science and technology studies (STS)/medical sociology) to join the ARIA-funded project ‘Neurology Navigates Neurotech (3N): Understanding the Experiences and Expectations of Neurology Clinicians in relation to the Promise of Precision Neurotechnology’ (PI: Professor Martyn Pickersgill).

The Opportunity:

During the 2.5 year position, the Research Fellow will be expected to conduct interviews with clinicians working in neurology across the UK, and undertake an in-depth analysis of the broader context of precision neurotechnology and how this relates to neurology within the National Health Service (NHS).

The research will also entail close dialogue with stakeholders (and include the production of outputs for these) and wider public engagement, and will also result in peer-reviewed articles for STS/sociological journals.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD in STS or medical sociology
  • Methodological expertise in conducting interviews with clinicians or scientists
  • Topical expertise in neuroscience and society (or a closely related field).
  • Willingness and ability to develop and conduct stakeholder and public engagement.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant citizenship roles as part of professional development.
