Are you an enthusiastic and highly motivated newly qualified Speech and Language Therapist or experienced Band 5 seeking new opportunities? Newly qualified Band 5 therapists will receive regular support and mentorship to complete their RCSLT competencies.

Dysphagia training is provided. Band 5 therapists are encouraged to attend the Trusts AHP Band 5 preceptorship programme, and to also meet with other Band 5s for peer support.

This is an exciting opportunity for Band 5 Speech and Language Therapists to join the inpatient SLT service at Nottingham University Hospitals. The post is a fixed term full time post covering a maternity leave for 9 months. The post is likely to be based in our Stroke Unit with a focus on rehabilitation.

The post holder will work alongside other SLTs and assistants in the teams. There will be opportunities to meet and work with the wider Speech and Language Therapy service. There are always new opportunities evolving within the team and this post will give the successful candidate the opportunity to join the team.

The posts involve working your hours across Monday to Friday (to be discussed further at interview), and there may also be an additional requirement to work on the weekend and bank holiday rotas but only with support.

Main duties of the job

There is a FEES and video fluoroscopy service. There are strong links with the MDT and opportunity for developing your skills, participating in task and finish groups, training delivery, and inter-disciplinary CPD.

To provide a Speech and Language Therapy service to adults with communication and swallowing disorders at Nottingham University Hospital Trust. This service covers Queens Medical Centre and City Hospital and serves a wide range of patients and specialisms.

The New National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC), is due to open in Summer 2025 is part of the wider service.

To independently provide a Speech and Language Therapy assessment, formulation, intervention and advice service for people with communication and/or dysphagia needs, their families, carers, support staff and professionals.

To work as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team across a variety of agencies and locations in order to maximise communication opportunities To plan for and support the work of assistants and co-workers as part of the case management To contribute to the development of and deliver of a range of training packages for health and education professionals, other agencies and families.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The NRC will be a new, purpose-built 70-bed facility which will be built on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate near Loughborough, delivering a centre of excellence to improve rehabilitation services in England. It is co-located with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre and will share some of the world class rehabilitation facilities.

Thanks to an academic partnership led by the University of Nottingham and Loughborough University, research and innovation and training and education in rehabilitation will be embedded at the NRC and central to clinical practice. We are looking for ambitious and dedicated professionals to join this journey to rehabilitation excellence, transforming outcomes for patients.

The post requires

Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification

Health Professions Council License to Practice

Registered member of RCSLT

The post-holder will be required, from time to time, to travel out from the base to attend training events, meetings, and domiciliary visits.

Uniform will be provided, and any equipment needed for the job role.

There may be an additional requirement to work some weekends and bank holiday rotas as part of a 7 day service

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated through writing, planning, audits, policies and guidelines

Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment diagnosis and treatment of service users

Able to use knowledge and make judgements in order to contribute to Speech and Language Therapy service delivery and development

Autonomous, motivated individual able to work under pressure and without direct supervision

Developing experience in the delivery of training and staff development programmes.

IT skills

Experience as a student or as a volunteer in specialist area/awareness of issues involved in that specialist area
