What skills and experience we're looking for

An exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher, or someone new to the profession, to teach KS3 and KS4 Computing at this successful and growing academy.

Having achieved the best results in the school’s history in summer 2023, followed by a visit from Ofsted in May 2024, where we were judged as a strong ‘Good’ in all areas, Buckler’s Mead Academy is going from strength to strength. As part of this development, we wish to appoint an ambitious, enthusiastic teacher to join our Computing department from January 2025.

Full time preferred but part time hours will be considered.

Computing courses are popular option subjects at Key Stage 4. We currently offer GCSE OCR Computer Science and CNAT Creative I-media at Key Stage 4 with all students in Key Stage 3 studying Computing. Over the summer of 2024, the academy invested significantly in the development and improvement of Computing facilities, including replacing every desktop computer across the site.

Our work is supported by the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership trust network team, which includes our on-site network managers and those of the highly skilled wider Trust team. The Computing department is closely linked with the Business team and works within the Maths block of the school.

The successful candidate should be:

  • Hard working and fully committed to the ethos of the academy
  • Enthusiastic, ambitious, creative, positive and dedicated
  • Willing to try new ideas and take responsibility for new initiatives
  • Keen to support the teaching of excellence by improving student outcomes
  • Someone with a passion for the subjects and a drive to ensure all students engage in a broad and balanced curriculum
  • Someone with sky high expectations of students, whilst fully appreciating the need to provide encouragement and support to students of all abilities
  • Someone who can work collaboratively with staff from all areas of the academy, parents, students and external agencies, as well as working with other Computing teachers across the Trust
  • Interested in continuing professional development

What the school offers its staff

In return we can offer you the opportunity to work with motivated students, the full support of a dedicated and committed team of staff, a supportive induction programme and ongoing professional development, plus the opportunity to work in a developing academy in a beautiful area of the South West.
We seek to significantly invest in developing all of our staff and often identify ambitious teachers with potential, developing them in their roles in order to take on leadership positions. Having joined the Midsomer Norton Schools’ Partnership in September 2021, we are part of a Trust which is often considered the ‘market leader’ in the South West for school improvement.

The successful candidate will benefit from Trust wide opportunities, such as early careers induction, CPD and working with colleagues across Trust schools.

Staff benefits include free on-site parking, membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and access for all staff to the Employee Assistance Programme “Health Assured”, which is a telephone based advice, information and counselling service. A selection of meals, snacks and drinks is available for staff to purchase at lunch and break times.

Buckler’s Mead Academy is a highly inclusive academy in the east of Yeovil, close to the Dorset border. Our vision as an academy is “an inspiring education for all”. All members of our community should be given the opportunity to be happy, to achieve, participate and become successful.
